After a month of incredible conversations with small business owners––whose stories range from heartbreak, to sustainability, to legacy, and service––crafting a letter that neatly wraps their narratives into a succinct and well-worded summary is a challenge I did not take lightly, after all, these are business who need no introduction.

And yet, with each finished piece, I was reminded of the mission and purpose behind this publication. I was reminded that, while we value small business owners, practitioners, and service providers; while we make every effort to deliver timely, easy-to-access original content; and while our belief in the power of storytelling lies deeply rooted in humanity’s need for connection; GOLDFOLK remains the new kid on the block, taking notes, learning from our elders, and committing to carry on a torch lit long ago by the brave entrepreneurs who call Nevada County home.

In our third issue we bring to you the stories of tradition, loss, pride, purpose, and innovation. From the 19th annual MEB II Turkey Trot to a Thanksgiving dinner done for you, GOLDFOLK is dedicated to sharing the lives of those who have chosen to serve.

GOLDFOLK is brought to you by the businesses who fill our pages. Not by their logo or phone number, but by the people, the owners, the shopkeepers, the practitioners and entrepreneurs who have chosen to share their stories with you.  We thank you for your support.

If you have an offering, small business, or service that finds its audience in Nevada County, please reach out.

Warmly,

Casey Lane
