For dry and cracked lips

Makes ~ 30 lip balm tubes

1 oz Apricot Kernel Oil

3/4 oz Plantain Oil

1/2 oz Shea Butter

1/2 oz Cocoa Butter

1/2 oz Sacha Inchi Oil

1/2 oz Kukui Nut Oil

1/4 oz Castor Oil

1/4 oz Calendula Oil

1/4 oz Comfrey Oil

30 drops Vitamin E

1.2 oz  (2.4 tbsp) Beeswax of choice

90 drops of Essential oil blend of choice

Choosing Essential Oils

For Autumn, I like to include an essential oil blend that is mildly cooling but also herbaceous and somewhat warming – representative of the season. Nutmeg, marjoram, fennel, cardamom, tulsi, rose, sandalwood, or tea tree blend well with the “menthol” oils like peppermint, spearmint, or wintergreen. Citrus fruits, such as lime, mandarin, blood-orange, or tangerine also blend smoothly, or choose from the “cooling florals” like lavender, rose, jasmine or chamomile.

Instructions

Before beginning the melting phase, prepare your lip balm tubes ensuring they are clean, dry, and ready to receive your mixture. Next, combine the cocoa and shea butters in a double boiler, allowing them to melt before adding in the oils. Once the butters and oils have combined you can then add in the beeswax allowing this to melt (145°). Once the wax has melted, remove from heat and add in the essential oils. Pour the mixture into your prepared containers (slow and steady). Let your containers cool, top them with lids, and enjoy!
